Shanghai, China — The Philips Foundation, with the support of Philips in China, today announced the donation of urgently needed healthcare equipment with a value of approximately EUR 2 million, to support the fight against the ongoing novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) epidemic in the Hubei Province. Delivered via the Wuhan Youth Development Foundation, the donation will be dedicated to equipping Wuhan’s new Thunder God Mountain Hospital, deploying Philips’ expertise in the field of healthcare to help combat coronavirus-related pneumonia.

The donation includes a number of health technology products and solutions from Philips, including a CT scanner to quickly diagnose the effects of the disease, and an ultrasound solution for rapid assessment of respiratory complications and remote diagnosis of critical cases. Also included are patient monitors and ventilators for treatment, intensive care and bedside monitoring solutions, defibrillators for emergency care, and sterilization of hospital wards.

“Considering the relief it could bring by helping to provide access to care and prevention at this time of crisis, we have worked fast to get this donation and expertise across,” said Margot Cooijmans, Director of the Philips Foundation. “The knowledge of Philips in the field of respiratory diseases and health technology was a critical part of this emergency response.”

“We are mobilizing our local and global resources, to support the prevention and control of the epidemic in China, working side by side with healthcare workers across the country,” said Andy Ho, Chief Philips Greater China and member of the Executive Committee Royal Philips.
